洋基先發投手Ivan Nova一夫當關，完投9局0失分，加上Robinson Cano開轟助威，終場洋基以2比0擊敗金鶯，系列賽以2比0領先，在美聯外卡排名第3，落後第2名的光芒3.5場勝差。
總教練Joe Girardi願意讓Nova投完9局，對於Nova來說意義重大，「他(Girardi)對我有信心，真的相當讓人難以置信。」
金鶯與洋基3連戰的第2場比賽，洋基推出8月份未嘗敗績的Nova先發上陣，他完投9局僅被敲出3支安打，1保送、5三振，沒有丟掉任何分數。
唯一令Nova較擔心的發生在8局下，暫居全壘打王的Chris Davis敲出右外方向相當高的飛球，右外野手鈴木一朗早早掌握，但他卻調皮讓球看起來有機會形成追平比數的全壘打，但最後還是進了鈴木一朗手套。
「我只是想找點樂子，我是位職業球員，所以讓比賽看起來更刺激是很棒的事，如果球迷心想『噢！不好了！』，我卻完成了這個守備，我想球迷都希望看到，事情從最糟變成最好的情況。」
不過，鈴木一朗的幽默，確實讓Nova嚇出一身冷汗，針對這點他笑著說：「我對這點很抱歉，但他事後感覺不賴，總是有辦法享受球賽，並讓球迷有個愉快的時光。」 (接下一頁)
