Touch panel makers expect weak demand for notebook applications into 2Q15

Touch panel makers estimate weak demand for notebook applications into the second quarter of 2015 and vendors' touch notebook reserves including Hewlett Packard's are expected to remain high throughout the period.
The first quarter is traditionally a slow period for the industry but makers expect orders will remain weak into the second quarter as vendors anticipate limited demand for the technology.
Touch notebook vendors' reserves are piling up as a result, and makers are looking to provide low-priced solutions in order to maintain orders, which is putting pressure on the industry.
Many makers are now offering OGS touch panels priced at US$1.50 per inch for notebooks in the 13- to 15-inch segments and O-Film may provide even cheaper pricing with some of its latest thin-film touch technologies.
Overall, supply chains for touch notebook vendors can expect a 20-30% decline in orders during the first quarter of 2015 as vendors hold off from putting in increased orders.
