1月9日在澳洲舉辦的亞洲盃，效力與德甲球隊沙爾克04的日本籍後衛內田篤人確定無法為國出征，留在德國復健。

日本隊主教練Javier Aguirre表示，內田的膝傷已經困擾他很久了，讓他好好休息，應付德甲的下半季賽事。

內田從08年起已經代表日本踢了72場球，但他在今年二月遭遇了右膝根腱的傷勢，後來又有發炎的現象，不適合繼續比賽，而內田的空缺，預計由鹿兒島鹿角隊的植田直通遞補。

日本隊與巴勒斯坦、伊拉克、約旦一同被分在D組，首戰將在1月12日出戰巴勒斯坦。
